Blepharoplasty – Eye Lid Surgery in Romania.

Image

Image

GENERAL INFORMATION
Blepharoplasty (eye lid surgery) is performed since 1970 and since then a large number of men and women benefit from the results of this intervention. This surgical intervention aims to remove excess of skin and fat on the upper and lower eyelid. This skin and fat excess determines a decrease of the field of vision, along with wrinkles and bags under the eyes creating a tired look. Eyelid surgery can be performed on the upper and lower eyelid separately and together in the same intervention. In the same manner, eyelid surgery can be associated to face lifting procedure.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM BLEPHAROPLASTY?
Usually, the surgical intervention is performed on patients over 35 years but if the case it can be performed even earlier. The intervention is not recommended in hyperthyroid, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and ophthalmologic affections as retinal detachment or glaucoma.
SURGICAL INTERVENTION RISKS
There are risks involved in undergoing any surgery. When an experienced surgeon performs the surgical intervention, the complications are rare and usually minor. There are great differences between patients as regards the healing capacity, thus the outcome is never completely predictable. Just like minor complications, double sight or foggy sight might appear after a couple of days after surgery. If the tissue removed was more that the necessary amount ectropin might occur, a lower eyelid retraction might impede closing the eyelid. Before the surgical intervention an ophthalmologist should be consulted in order to verify the sight and tear secretion.

PREOPERATION INDICATIONS

  • Do not eat or drink after midnight before the surgical intervention
  • Taking aspirin and drugs containing aspirin with two weeks before the surgical intervention is forbidden;
  • Usually, for women, the surgical intervention must be performed besides menses;
  • The surgeon and the anesthetician must be notified if any medical problems exist (blood pressure, vascular problems, heart attack, diabetes, lung problems, bleeding problems, epilepsy, neurological problems, allergies for different drugs);
  • The doctor must be notified if you have a set of plates or eye lenses;
  • If you smoke, plan to quit 1-2 weeks before the operation and do not start to smoke again for at least 2 weeks after the surgery;
  • Avoid sunbathing in excess before surgery, particularly in the facial area;
  • Do not follow a strict diet before surgery because it might delay the healing process;
  • If you catch a cold or have any infection the surgery must be rescheduled

SURGICAL INTERVENTION

Blepharoplasty is generally performed under local anesthetic combined with light intravenous anesthetic. You will be awake but insensitive to pain. The intervention takes from 1 to 3 hours. Usually the lower eyelid surgery is performed then the upper one. The incisions are made in the natural folds of the upper eyelid and immediately and just below the lashes on the lower. The tegument is separated from the eye muscle and the excess fat tissue on the upper and lower eyelids is removed. Finally, the excess tissue is being removed and stitching can be performed. If on the lower eyelid there can be found only fat excess without any tegumentary excess, trans-conjunctiva blepharoplasty with an incision in the inner eyelid can be performed.

POSTOPERATIVE HOSPITALIZATION

Following the eyelid surgery a one-day hospitalization is required in order to remain under medical supervision and during this period antibiotics will be preventively administrated and ice will be applied locally.

TOP DENTAL TOURISM IN ROMANIA.

Image

The proper cleaning of temporary teeth.

There are 20 temporary teeth, also known as “milk teeth”, (incisors, canines and molars). Their eruption starts at babies around the age of 6 months and continues until they are 30 months, more or less (two years and a half). They will persist on the dental arcades up until the age of 11, the age when the last milk tooth will change. Therefore, the presence of milk teeth will preserve for a few years in a baby’s mouth, which makes the oral hygiene highly important.

Dentists recommend the cleaning for a baby’s mouth even before the appearance of first teeth, by whipping their gums after each breastfeeding, using compresses soaked with hydrogen peroxide, chamomile tea or clean water. Once the first teeth appear, it must be cleaned up too, either using the same type of compresses, either using a tooth brush and a tooth paste in accordance with baby’s age. Usually, for babies under 1 year old, it is recommended the usage of a brush thimble; if the baby has over 1 year, a classical tooth brush can be used with the condition to have the right size and texture in accordance wit the baby’s age.

Up until three years old, or precisely until the baby learns how to rinse his mouth and spit, it must be used a fluoride-free tooth paste, with vanilla or fruit flavor, in order to be easily accepted by the child. Starting the moment in which the child learns how to stop swallowing the tooth paste, it is recommended the usage of fluoride toothpaste, in order for him to benefit over the local protection of the dental surfaces given by the presence of fluoride.

Teeth brushing must be performed al least two times a day, mandatory in the evening, and during night, the baby will not receive any other solid food or drinks, other than water or unsweetened tea.

It is very important for the parents to turn the teeth brushing into a family ritual, performed by all the members of the family, in a game which requires the active involvement of the child. In this way, as time passes by, the child will start to enjoy brushing his teeth, he will not perceive it as a burden.

Generally speaking, by the age of 8 years old, children do not have the skills to perform a correct teeth brushing, especially when it comes for the teeth in the back of thei mouth. It is recommended that after the child brushed his own teeth, an adult sibling would help him with an additional brushing, insisting on the teeth in the back.

It is best that the first visit of a child to a dentist to be 6 months after the appearance of the first tooth. This way, if the first tooth of a baby erupts at the age of 6 months, the first visit to a dental clinic for a specialized consult should take place by the time the baby would be one year old. The purpose of this consult is to check on the efficiency of the hygienic measures, tracing early signs of decay. The dentist will recommend parent to brush their child’s teeth twice a day, to give up the usage of baby bottles with milk or sweetened liquids during night and to follow a correct eating diet.

Abdominoplasty – Tummy Tuck in Romania.

ImageImage

INTRODUCTION
Abdominoplasty is a major surgical procedure, which removes skin and fat excess from the lower abdominal area. In the same time, defects on the abdominal wall can be repaired through surgery and it sutures on the median line of the rectus abdominis muscles. Abdominoplasty is a common practice since 1960 and if it is performed by an experienced plastic surgeon the results are highly positive. Abdominoplasty consists in the removal of the so-called “loose layer” from the lower abdomen. But it produces a permanent extended scar from one hip to another.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM ABDOMINOPLASTY?
Abdominoplasty can be of a major interest for men as well as for women, which present a skin and fat excess that cannot be removed through diet and exercises. The surgery is useful to women, which due to multiple pregnancies have the abdominal muscles diastases.  Moreover, this surgical intervention can remove stretch marks and scars below the umbilicus.
Abdominoplasty is not recommended for women who wish to have another pregnancy or on patients who desire to keep one or more diets.

SURGERY RISKS
There are risks involved in undergoing any surgery. Being a major surgical procedure the risks of the abdominoplasty must be discussed thoroughly with the surgeon and with the anesthesiologist before surgery. Besides all risks implied by a general anesthesia and surgery such as infection, hematoma, embolism and non-esthetic scars should be discussed.

PREOPERATIVE INDICATIONS

  • Do not eat or drink after midnight before the surgery intervention
  • Taking aspirin and drugs containing aspirin with two weeks before the surgical intervention is forbidden;
  • Usually, for women, the surgical intervention must be performed besides menses;
  • The surgeon and the anesthesiologist must be notified if any medical problems exist (blood pressure, vascular problems, heart attack, diabetes, lung problems, bleeding problems, epilepsy, neurological problems, allergies for different drugs);
  • The doctor must be notified if you have a set of plates or eye lenses;
  • If you smoke, plan to quit 2 weeks before the operation and do not start to smoke again for at least 2 weeks after the surgery;
  • Avoid sunbathing in excess before surgery, particularly in the abdominal area;
  • Do not follow a strict diet before surgery because it might delay the healing process;
  • If you catch a cold or have any infection the surgery must be rescheduled

THE SURGICAL INTERVENTION

Abdominoplasty is performed under general anesthetic. The surgery intervention takes between 2 and 5 hours depending on the complexity of the case. The surgeon will make an incision just around the bikini line and another around the umbilicus to free the tissues around. The skin and subcutaneous tissue are lifted close to ribs area. In some cases rectus abdominis muscles are sutured at the midline by plication of the aponeurosis, thus solving the problem of the muscular diastasis.As the case may be, suturing the muscles on the median line can tighten the musculo-apoverotic muscle. The skin and soft tissue above the umbilicus are pulled down and its excess is completely removed. A new incision is made for attaching the umbilicus. Finally the incision will be closed with surgical threads and 1-2 drainage tubes are attached for a couple of days.

POSTOPERATIVE HOSPITALIZATION
Due to the fact that abdominoplasty is a major surgical procedure, we consider that a longer hospitalization, from 3 to 5 days, is required for the patient’s safety and in order to reduce any complication that might occur. During this period, bandages and abdominal garmet will be worn and antibiotics and anti-thromboembolic drugs will be administrated.

POST-OPERATIONAL RECOVERY
Following the hospitalization, surgical stitches will be removed at 12 days after surgery, even by the family doctor. The patient will wear the abdominal garment for at least 2 weeks after the removal of the stitches. The recovery after abdominoplasty is individual. Some patients return to work after 2 weeks while others need 3-4 weeks of rest and recovery. Light recovery gymnastics is recommended to invigorate the abdominal muscles. As for scars, up to six month they blemish and swell and after 9 months to 1 year they become flat and will fade significantly. Sunbathing is to be avoided for at least 1 year after the surgery in order to avoid scar depigmentation. The scars will never disappear completely but they can be hidden under the bikini or even the bathing suit. In order to preserve the obtained result, it is mandatory to follow a hygienically and dietary regime   recommended by a nutritionist. Do not hesitate to practice sports.

CONCLUSIONS
We have a great experience with the abdominoplasty and over 600 solved cases during the last 12 years. If your surgical expectations are realistic and you are prepared to bear the consequences – a permanent scar and a rather long recovery period- then abdominoplasty is the right solution for you.
