VENEERS – Types of veneers, execution of veneers, who can wear veneers.

Dental veneers

What does veneers means?

Ceramic veneers are thin ceramic layers similar in size to contact lenses, which are applied on the outer surface of teeth , being one of the most non-invasive methods to aestheticized their appearance and protect damaged surfaces after removal of the cause and treatment damage.

They can be considered true “masks” that hide the teeth identity well , this change of “teeth personality” being made of course in order to improve it!

Dental faceting is part of the dental aesthetics branch and aesthetics has clear , objective rules of beauty , and it has also less clear rules , subjective ones, as those from the category ” beauty is in the eye of the beholder” – here we can include the pure white Hollywood smile which makes one look good in pictures or at TV and the very nice natural smile when you admire a friend while you are out for a tea in a sunny day of spring!

Types of veneers:

Dental veneers are often made of ceramic or composite , the ceramic is more durable than the composite and does not change color over time. In general , for ceramic veneers two visits to the dentist are required ; the composite can be applied in a single visit , but overall , the ceramics are superior in terms of resistance and especially in terms of aesthetics , the latter being able to render perfectly the natural appearance of tooth enamel.

Execution of ceramic veneers:

For the achievement of preparations local anesthesia is required ; therefore , the process is completely painless ;  then your dentist removes a very thin layer of enamel to accommodate future veneers , the next step is printing , the print is then sent to the technician who will make the pattern in order to render in the lab the situation of the preparations over which he/she will make the veneers.

The print will be sent to the technician together with a series of precise indications on color and form , and most importantly, with pictures of the teeth and face of the patient to finally obtain a great result in perfect harmony with the smile and facial expressions.

Meanwhile , the dentist will make provisional veneers in order to replace the removed enamel layer , the patient will wear these until the ceramic ones are ready.

Temporary veneers are very fragile and must be handled with care while eating and brushing , as they can peel easily.

On the next visit , the doctor will remove the temporary veneers and prepare teeth surfaces for cement , then he/ she will apply every veneer , one by one using a special cement for veneers.

Who can wear veneers?

Not everyone is a good candidate for veneers.

Here are some situations in which your doctor may recommend you another type of treatment :

– If a tooth is decayed or had periodontal disease , gingivitis ; first , one must have these problems treated , and then the doctor will decide whether or not there is a possibility of applying dental veneers.

– If the patient misses too much of a tooh , an aesthetic coating made of pressed ceramic or ceramic with zirconia , silver or platinum gold support will be a much better solution than dental faceting.

-If a person clenches / grids his/her teeth , that is he/she suffers from bruxism, sooner or later she/he will fracture the dental veneers.

Veneers cleaning :

Like natural teeth , faceted teeth must be cleaned daily using:

– floss

– proper and careful brushing

– use of oral shower for a complete cleaning of areas difficult to reach and keeping gums healhty

– avoid abrasive toothpaste to avoid damaging the veneers surface.

And last but not least , make a check every six months for a professional cleaning and brushing!
